Wear Yellow – livesTrong
There have been many references in the Guestbook that many of us are wearing yellow wristbands in support of Taylor and his recovery efforts. These wristbands have the word “LIVESTRONG” on them. Livestrong is an educational program of the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
“From the moment your survivorship begins on the day of diagnosis, we understand that living with cancer is more than a medical experience. Finding easy to understand information that you can trust is sometimes challenging and overwhelming. We offer you information that helps you to live strong through the physical, emotional and practical challenges of your survivorship.”
I originally made a donation to the foundation and purchased the wristbands because my father, Taylor’s grandfather, DearPa, is a survivor, and my mother-in-law was not. I thought it was a really nice program with deep informational resources, and a powerful message.
The day my wristbands arrived was July 8th, when Taylor had his accident. It seemed natural for me to wear the wristband, but now for Taylor. I even called the Lance Armstrong Foundation to see if it would be appropriate, and they said the program was about SURVIVORS, and I could use them in any way that it helped.
I ordered 100 more yellow wristbands and had them sent immediately to Taylor’s hospital room for his visitors to wear. We all colored in the “T” in the middle of “livesTrong” so it also became a message for Taylor. Somebody else bought another bag full of bands for visitors, and we are all still wearing them proudly.
When I returned to my office, Taylor’s story spread, and there are now another 200 people in Pasadena, CA wearing yellow wristbands with the “T” colored in for Taylor. When we each go home, the story will continue to spread.
So… In case anyone was wondering about these notes in Taylor’s guestbook….. LIVESTRONG
